Gambari to Meet Suu Kyi Just ahead of Departure

UN special envoy Ibrahim Gambari has announced he will meet detained pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Thursday, before concluding his visit to Burma the same day, according to the diplomats. Gambari announced the planned meeting Wednesday to diplomats in the capital Naypyidaw, where he has been holding talks with senior Burmese officials. His announcement came as hopes dimmed that his mission could help end Burma's political crisis, after the military government rejected proposed talks with Suu Kyi, saying it refuses to bow to big powers.
